Asking the model to show its steps before giving the final answer, instead of jumping straight to a conclusion. The ancestor of today's built-in reasoning models.
Why it matters: visible steps mean checkable steps. When an answer is wrong, you can see where it went wrong instead of just distrusting the whole thing.
